Acquisition of new build properties in Scarborough and Norton for use as affordable rented accommodation to take into the Housing Revenue Account

The Council’s Constitution provides that at least 28 clear days before a private meeting (a meeting, or part of a meeting, of the executive decision making body during which the public are excluded) the executive decision-making body must give notice of its intention to hold the meeting in private (including a statement of the reasons for holding it in private) by making the notice available at County Hall and at the venue for the meeting (if different) and publishing it on the Council’s website.

It is anticipated that on 18 March 2025 a report requesting approval from the Executive to acquire a total of 19 new build properties in Scarborough and Norton (9 in Scarborough and 10 in Norton) for use as affordable rented accommodation to take into the Housing Revenue Account will be considered.

There is high housing need in both Scarborough and Norton for all types of accommodation, including both family and single person households. The acquisition of these homes will increase the supply of affordable rented housing in both Scarborough and Norton and will also form part of our aspiration to deliver 500 new Council homes over the next 5 years.

The report is likely to contain exempt information. The information anticipated to be contained in the report is of the type defined in paragraph 3 of Part 1 of Schedule 12A to the Local Government Act 1972 (Information relating to the financial or business affairs of any particular person (including the authority holding that information) ) and it is considered that the public interest in maintaining the exemption outweighs the public interest in disclosing the information. This part of the meeting may therefore be held in private.

This Notice gives notice of the intention to hold this part of the Executive meeting in private.
